European Commission demands a universal charger for mobile phones

The European Commission intends to force cell phone manufacturers to create a unified charger for all mobile phones. As reported by "PRIME TASS", EU Industry Commissioner Günter Verheugen came forward with this initiative on the air of the Deutsche Welle radio station.

According to Verheugen, cell phone manufacturers simply must develop a charger suitable for all mobile phones. This will save buyers from having to purchase a new charger when switching from one mobile to another. Spending money on extra gadgets is unacceptable, Verheugen believes, and handset makers have been testing the European Commission's patience for far too long. A whole range of strict measures may be taken against manufacturers in this regard.
